Top Tips For Online Interviews
As we become accustomed to the new normal of living through a pandemic, our operations processes have needed to adapt, whether it is working remotely or arranging a new working space to keep everyone safe. But what about when it comes to interviews?
For the time being at least, most organisations will be looking to carry out their recruitment processes remotely. So, with this in mind, how can you make this process as effective as possible?
Use Technology to Your Advantage
Using video conferencing not only allows you to see the interviewee but you can also create a better rapport with each other through non-verbal communication. Body language will be more important than ever so be human, but be polished.
Plan Your Script
Whether it’s a one to one interview or a group call, make sure you have an interview script to provide a positive experience for both parties. Remember, they are not getting to come in and experience the culture of your workplace, so this needs to come across within the interview experience itself.
Be Present
When doing virtual meetings it can be easy to become distracted. Switch off any other notifications and maintain eye contact with your candidate. This means testing your technology before the call to avoid any awkward moments while you fiddle with your settings.
Dress the Space
Although the candidate will be aware you may be working from home, you do not want this to be a distraction. Use a teleconference background or make sure your space behind you is clear from clutter and your family know you cannot be disturbed.
Dress for the Interview
Just as you would expect your candidate to make an effort, you too should be dressing as you would if holding the meeting in person, at least on top.
Have a Process for Remote Onboarding
If successful candidates will be due to start working from home, ensure your onboarding process is ready to facilitate this. From sending out the right technology for their first day, to providing opportunities for online training and meeting the rest of the team. All of these need to be considered to provide a positive experience for your new employee.
